Todays Tip/Guest Room Reveal

HAPPY MONDAY...

hey all.. how are you doing this Sunny Monday... Doing alright here.. had a very nice and productive weekend...

NOW onto the Guest room reveal..

Now pre warning.. this is just making the guest room nice out of what I have in my home already.. however its not the way I would reallllyyy like it.. but at least there is currently a place for guests when they come (which is generally my  mom every few weeks for a weekend visit..lol)

Our Local Christmas Tree shops has some wonderful little items on dirt cheap sale that are exactly what I am looking for.. items that I just really can not make or find in my home to upcycle..

so.. first off here is a reminder of what this room looked like before I got started..

Not a very nice guest room.. looks more like a dumping ground if you ask me...


I need to give some Mad Props to my husband.. while I was off getting my hair done and getting paint samples on Saturday morning.. he went through ALLLLL the papers that were in this room and filed what we needed to save.. and tossed what was junk... WAY TO GO.. got the hard job out of the way...

 

The small table and desk that were in here are now GONEZO.. thanks to refinishing the old desk i had in the basement I now have a nice office/command center space in the sun room..so the small table was upcycled for my daughters birthday present.. which is a chalkboard desk with an upcycled rolling storage cart.. it will be her art center... The desk which was one of those walmart desks you just throw together.. we put that on the curb and within 24 hours someone snagged it up..remember when getting rid of items.. dont chop them into a million pieces..set them on the curb first.. maybe someone needed a desk bad.. or they have an upcycle project for it.. Glad i could help someone out..

 

I will be purchasing a TALL lamp to go in this room by the chair..

 

 

I took an old ladder shelf that was currently housing nothing.. just sitting in my basement collecting dust..i took a few very important keepsakes and put them on the higher shelves.. while cleaning the room I found some trial size body wash and lotion, as well as kleenex and what not.. i also found a box of note cards and envelopes.. I set those up  with some pens.. maybe someone wants to send a card.. I dunno just seemed like a nice finishing touch.. I also took some candy i had been stashing and set it up in a bowl.. a little treat for my guest..

Below that are some hand towels as well as a nice big fluffy towel, with some soap and lotion.. I would like some fancier looking items.. again christmas tree shop has some very pretty vintage looking toiletries.. VERY CHEAP.. we shall see..

 

 

this was an old wodden chair I had in my inlaws basement of all places.. I do plan to paint this chair with one of the paint samples I picked up this weekend.. Also I am currently looking on craigslist and freecycle to find some small square side table.. big enough to hold maybe a small vase of flowers and a cup of coffee.. My mother is going to help me make som nice cushions for this chair.. make it  more comfy.. that way if say my mom is here, but she wants some time for herself.. she can sit and read with her coffee etc etc...

 

and the FINAL piece to the puzzle. did you see the bed before.. how could anyone lay there head down on it.. let along see the bed..lol..

again.. CHristmas tree shop has some beautiful quilt sets on sale.. this was just a "Man pull out an old set we have cuz I need something on the guest bed" type job.. i think the current quilt blends into the wall to much.. so we shall see.. taxes are coming in.. so im trying to find a way to spend the least amount of what I am given for my free spending (we take care of our stuff we need too.. then set aside a chunk in the bank for if we have issues this coming year, but we each get a little fun money.. mine will be spent on the items I have wanted that I can not make or upcycle)

SOOOO thats it folks.. i think its more now a nice shell to work on over the next few months.. in the guest room closet I found some nice framed art pieces.. just need to decide on bedding first..

We tooke about 3-4 hours and just went through everything in the room.. we found homes for all the items we wished to keep.. i.e. crafting supplies, papers, some random christmas decorations I found in there.. it was a long process but one that feels so incredibly worth it..

a room for my guests... my folks live about 3 hours away.. so when they come.. they spend the weekend generally.. and also my husband has people from work here and there who spend the night.. so having a nice welcoming room for these guests is very important to me.. it was also a major selling point when we purhcased our home.. the term GUEST ROOM sounded so appealing..lol..

My daughter looks almost passed ut.. my sun found some sunglasses on one of his trips into the guest room.. and the dog looks like he could shoot laser beams at me with his eyes.. What a bunch eh?

I need to go do my workout.. and get put together for the day... have some light cleaning to do today and some cakes to bake for 2 kiddos bday parties this coming weekend..
