Hey all..
I know.. random weekend post..
If you new to the Blog.. WELCOME.. so glad your here..
For those of you who missed the post on the FB page.. Here is Kelly's latest Project called "Weekend Grace" Its a wonderful way to show your family some love in Different ways
The Incomplete Guide to Homemaking- "Weekend Grace"
This week was about the ESSENTIALS.. for you family that is.. now I recently have been following Dave Ramsey's plan and am currently on a cash only envelope system.. so this weekend challenge was hard for me as I didnt have an envelop for something like this.. I think I need to start one because it seems like such a great idea.. Its a low cost tip/challenge to get your family their needs before they need them
LOVE IT.. however on my budget it didnt work..
Last weekend was about dressing things up.. going out of your way.. I made hubby breakfast in Bed with the weekend Paper.. which he never gets by the way.. I kept the kids out of the bedroom so he could just wake up in peace and quiet.. (went over really well by the way)
This weekend I wanted to make more for the kiddos.. We have had quite the cold virus in the house and have spent almost the past 2 weeks IN THE HOUSE.. not doing anything fun..
So an ESSENTIAL for my children is FOOD.. THEY LOVE FRIENDLYS.. they will do anything to go to friendlys.. yet again.. not in the budget.. So I figured since Im becoming the mom that makes a meal and thats what you eat.. that Im not a 5 star restaurant that I would become one just for this night.

ENTER MOMMA"S PANTRY
In my Head I envisioned me coming in with my apron on after Hubs had sat the kids down with their menus.. I envisioned playing restaurant and My daughter at least (son is 2) having a blast to actually get real food.. not pretend playdough food..
GUESS AGAIN..
She decided to be her 5 year old drama queen self and was screaming and crying that she didnt want to play.. that I needed to stop it.. it was silly..
I would be a big fat liar if I said I was fine with it.. but truthfully even though shes 5 and probably didnt understand.. She did hurt my feelings.. as you can see above a lot of work went into it.. I sent my mom all these google images and information and she whipped up a cute menu page.. which she then emailed back to me and I printed and got to decorating.. Hubs and I were having pizza, and I had made cupcakes and homemade butter cream frosting.. and now after all this work.. she wants to scream and whine..
I think what hurt the most was not that she didnt want to play.. but the attitude in which she displayed it.. all she had to say was" Momma I dont want to play, no thank you" I still would have been hurt.. but at least the display of drama added wouldnt have stung so much..
SOOO Hubs coaxed her to look at her menu.. the act was done.. mom was not playing.. so she picked out her meal..this is as simple as drawing the items you want to "Sell" on paper.. or printing stuff off.. Google images was my best friend in finding the images..you could simply print cut and paste onto some construction paper.. I happen to be bored and just went all out on them, thanks to a lot of unused craft supplies..
heres lil drama queen herself with her APPLE appetizer.. It cost a couple kisses..(each item I put on the menu cost a certain amount of kisses.., by the end of the meal she owed me 6 kisses)
since my son is 2.. I let Makenna pick the meals for the both of them.. she decided for desert she wanted Oreo Cupcakes.
I had been saying all week I would make some and finally got down to it. I whipped up some buttercream frosting and we were good to go..
Now even though My feelings were hurt. I really just wanted my kids to feel special. We dont do a ton of fabulous water parks, or zoo activities.. we color and draw or take walks.. My daughters first Big screen movie experience was last week when the church held a family movie night.. she got to wear her jammies and bring a pillow and sleeping bag and sprawl out to watch BEE movie on the big screen at church.. she loved it.. however shes still not ready for the movie theater..
So even in my hurt feelings.. I thought.. what can I do to redeem myself.. what can I do that will really get her to feel special.. Believe it or not my daughter is obsessed with watching movies on the pull out couch.. she calls it "Camp out or Sleepovers" even though she ends up sleeping in her bed..
SOOOO while I stepped out to run an errand.. hubby got the couch pulled out and fitted with a nice flannel sheet and some blankets and My Daughter picked "The Lorax" off netflix to watch.. while I was out "Dollar Tree" I notice they had big movie theater style popcorn buckets.. FOR 1$ was so excited and so happy I had a buck on me.. i snagged one right up.. As I came home Hubs was microwaving some popcorn (not to well thanks to our dying microwave, but he doesnt know the Make popcorn on the stove trick) so we popped up some pop corn and settled in for "The Lorax"
She was so much more excited about this thing that took me 5 minutes to do than something that took me all afternoon to plan and clean up after.. It really is the little things with kids..
She paid me her kisses and enjoyed her movie.. She snuggled with daddy while I rocked in Dads recliner.. Ive never seen the movie.. It was cute.. and my daughter was happy to have special time with mom and dad (to late for my son to stay up)
SOOO Thanks kelly for your weekend Grace tips. while I didnt follow them to a T.. I did do something special for my kids and family.. and while it may not have turned out as I wanted.. God taught me some lessons a long the way..
Much Love and Blessings on this Snowstorm Sunday
